Introduction

Hello, and welcome to Key Moments! This is a little workflow-booster app that was designed and developed by two people: A streamer / youtuber known as RedHairedViking, and Venima, a game developer and co-founder of Nysko Games. Informally we are Ole-Hermann and Perry.

Before we get to the instructions, a little disclaimer: Key Moments does log the keys you press while you keep the app open. However it only listens to the keys that you specify, and simply logs them to a file with a date and time, that's it!

Questions & Answers

Q: How do you run Key Moments?
A: There is no installer, but it does require java so you'll need to install java if you don't already have it. Then you just download the exe, put it where you want your log files to go, and run it! If you want to run the app from somewhere else, right click the app and do 'Create shortcut', then you can move that shortcut wherever.

Q: How do you use Key Moments?
A: The app itself has a short 3 step guide (as you can see in the image above), but if you want a bit more info, here you go:
Step 1: Add or remove which keys you want to log, by clicking the buttons on the right side of the app.
Step 2: The moment you start recording on OBS or whatever software you use, press one of those keys, so that the app will sync the time with your recording.
Step 3: Once you're done with your recording, there will be a .txt file that Key Moments has logged to. If you close the app, it will open that file automatically for you. In this log, you'll see a line that says "New Session" with the date and time when you first pressed a key. Following this will be your list of key moments, each with a local and elapsed time. The elapsed time is cool, since (provided you followed step 2 correctly) this will match the time in your recording!

Q: Why use Key Moments?
A: If you've ever wanted to do highlight videos or a cut-down version of a recording, Key Moments can significantly reduce the time you'll be editing! Any time something cool happens during your recording, you just hit a key and Key Moments will log the elapsed time so you know exactly where to find it in the recording!

Q: Is Key Moments free to use? - (License Info)
A: Yes, completely free. No ads, no sign-ups, just download and use it however you wish. You are not however permitted to tamper with or modify the app itself, or re-distribute the exe or jar file, but feel free to share the download link below.

Q: I forgot to do step 2! What now?
A: That's ok! That's what the local time is for. Compare the creation time of your recording with the time of the first key press. That should give you an idea of how many seconds/minutes it's off by.
